The Legend of Santa Clause

What the Legend of Santa Claus Teaches Us

For generations, kids have been fascinated with the legend of Santa Claus. The concept of a jolly white bearded man who resides at the North Pole and delivers gifts to all good children on one special night of the year is an image that many of us bring into our adult lives, and in turn share this enjoyment with our own children. Though the legend of Santa Claus is, after all, only a myth, that does not mean that we don't learn valuable lessons from Santa. Here are a few examples of the way the legend of Santa Claus teaches us.

One of the overriding messages in the legend of Santa Claus is love. Santa does what he does out of love for all children. He spends the whole year making toys, with the goal of bringing joy to all who receive a present. It is Santa's love that drives this seemingly impossible task, year after year. The legend of Santa Claus teaches us that strong love can overcome many things, even a task that seems impossible.

Generosity is another trait that can be learned from the legend of Santa Claus. There are times in our lives when we will have the opportunity to do something good for others, while expecting no return or personal favor. In the case of what the legend of Santa Claus teaches us, Santa gives each year and asks nothing in return for himself. Instead his giving is done with the goal of children expressing positive values. Santa receives no payment for his efforts. What he does receive is the personal satisfaction that he has brought happiness into the lives of other people. The legend of Santa Claus helps us to understand that sometimes we do for others simply because we can, not for what we will gain.

Working well with others is another lesson to be learned from the legend of Santa Claus. Everyone knows that Santa is able to do what he does because of the assistance of the elves that make the toys. And where would Santa be without the flying reindeer? Everyone plays a role in making Santa's annual visit successful. The legend of Santa Claus reminds us that much can be done if we work and co-operate with others, understanding we all have valuable roles to play.

The legend of Santa Claus will be many things to many different people. Whatever your age or financial status, there is always something that you can learn from the legend of Santa Claus. Why not sit down today and make a list of the life lessons that you can find in the legend of Santa Claus? Odds are that you will identify some very important lessons that play a part in your own life.
